Lottery Community Projects – Eligibility Enquiry for Independent Legal Research and Community Education Project
Dear Community Matters Team,
I am writing on behalf of We Review the Crown to seek guidance on eligibility for the current Lottery Community Projects funding round.
We are developing an independent New Zealand project examining firearms licensing, administrative decision-making, procedural fairness and access to review.
The project is intended to produce a practical public benefit through evidence-based community research and accessible legal education.
The proposed work would include analysis of primary-source material from actual cases, statutory and case-law research, anonymised case studies, a structured database of relevant decisions and authorities, and publicly accessible educational material explaining licensing, suspension, revocation, disclosure, search, seizure and review processes.
The project would not begin from a predetermined conclusion and would not be designed as political campaigning. Its purpose would be to identify both sound administrative practice and areas where evidence, procedure, consistency or access to review could be improved.
We note that Lottery Community Projects can support defined community projects, including community research, where there is a clear public benefit. We would therefore appreciate confirmation as to whether a project of this nature could be eligible, and whether you recommend that we speak with a Community Advisor before submitting an application.
If appropriate, we can provide a concise project plan, methodology, proposed outputs, timeframe and budget.
Kind regards,
Tracy Lynch
