Document enclosed:
Request for Information Concerning Publication and Inquiry

PURPOSE OF THIS CORRESPONDENCE

The enclosed document concerns the factual and evidential basis of a publication authored by Sandra Conchie regarding Andrew Hollis.

The trustees of a private trust have identified actual reputational, commercial, and consequential harm arising from the publication. The inquiry seeks to establish:

the documents and sources relied upon;

what independent verification was undertaken;

whether disputed or contrary information was considered;

whether Andrew Hollis was given a meaningful opportunity to respond;

who approved the publication, headline, and editorial framing; and

why the formal notice served on 11 May 2026 received no substantive response.

The inquiry also concerns the wider conduct of agencies and participants connected with the underlying proceedings, including issues relating to disclosure, access to financial and company records, receivership processes, third-party involvement, and procedural fairness.

REASON FOR DISTRIBUTION

This correspondence is being provided to relevant Ministers, public officials, media management, and oversight bodies because the matters raised are not confined to an isolated media complaint.

They concern:

the reporting of untested allegations;

reliance upon information supplied by prosecuting or government agencies;

the adequacy of independent journalistic verification;

the consequences of incomplete or disputed official information;

actual loss suffered by affected persons; and

the need for institutional accountability where reputational harm has occurred.

Recipients are asked to retain this correspondence and ensure that it is referred to the appropriate person or business unit for consideration.

ACTION REQUIRED

Sandra Conchie and NZME are required to provide a substantive written response to the enclosed request.

Other recipients are asked to:

acknowledge receipt;

identify the person or office to whom the matter has been referred;

preserve any relevant correspondence or records held by their office; and

advise what action, if any, will be taken.

Thank you
