In Part One, I showed how NZ Police openly admit they do not determine the cause of a crash — they only record factors.
NZTA then converts those factors into causes, and publishes them as if they are factual.
NZTA then converts those factors into causes, and publishes them as if they are factual.
That’s how you end up with the logical equivalent of a “pizza‑related crash” if the only thing the Coroner found was pizza.
It’s funny until you realise what happens next.
Because those NZTA causal labels don’t just sit in a spreadsheet.
They flow directly into the systems that decide:
They flow directly into the systems that decide:
And that’s where the absurdity stops being whimsical and starts being harmful.
1. Insurance companies treat NZTA’s invented causes as fact
Insurers rely heavily on:
But here’s the problem:
Police don’t determine causes.
NZTA invents causes from factors.
Insurers treat those invented causes as evidence.
NZTA invents causes from factors.
Insurers treat those invented causes as evidence.
So if NZTA labels a crash as:
…an insurer can legally:
All based on a causal label that no agency actually determined.
If presence = cause, then anything can be a cause.
Including pizza.
Including pizza.
2. ACC can deny cover based on the same flawed logic
ACC covers accidents, not illnesses.
So when NZTA labels a crash as:
ACC may classify the injury as non‑accidental, even when:
This can mean:
Again — all based on a “cause” that Police explicitly say they do not determine.
3. The chain of error
This is the entire system in one sentence:
Police record factors → NZTA turns factors into causes → insurers and ACC treat those causes as fact.
It is a perfect administrative loop with no scientific foundation.
And the public pays for it — literally.
4. Why this matters
Because if NZTA can turn:
…then they can turn pizza into “pizza‑related.”
And if they can turn pizza into a cause,
they can turn anything into a cause.
they can turn anything into a cause.
And if they can turn anything into a cause,
they can deny anything.
they can deny anything.
That’s the real issue.
Not the pizza.
The power.
The power.
