I need every New Zealander to see this.
I filed an OIA asking DOC the most basic questions imaginable about their 1080 programme:
Why are you using 1080?
What’s the end‑goal?
How long do you plan to keep doing it?

They have no idea.
They’ve never defined it.
And they’ve never written it down.

DOC has been running a nationwide aerial poison programme for DECADES — and they have:
No documented purpose No defined end‑state No timeframe No internal reasoning No historical rationale No replacement plan No sunset clause No governance framework at allNothing.
Zero.
A total vacuum.
Zero.

And it gets worse.
DOC also confirmed that the Biodiversity Strategy, Predator Free 2050 Strategy, and National Predator Control Programme do NOT define the purpose, end‑state, or duration of 1080 use.
So let’s be crystal clear:
New Zealand has a national toxin programme with no documented reason for existing, no plan for how it ends, and no plan for how long it continues.
They just keep doing it because… they keep doing it.
This isn’t a “debate about 1080”.
This is a governance failure of historic proportions.
