AUNT BETTY HAS QUESTIONS FOR WELLINGTON PROTESTERS
Remember Wellington?
Remember when ordinary people were treated like the enemy?
Remember the sound devices, the police lines, the violence, the urgency meetings, the “public safety” language, and the sudden idea that normal process could be skipped because everything was apparently an emergency?
Aunt Betty remembers.
We have asked about the LRAD / acoustic sound devices used around the protest.
Who authorised them?
Who requested them?
Who gave permission?
Was Wellington City Council asked?
Were councillors properly briefed?
Was there a lawful approval process?
Was there a health-and-safety risk assessment?
Was there any medical assessment of harm to protesters, elderly people, children, disabled people, or bystanders?
Or was this another “urgent” situation where protocol disappeared and administrators started acting like they had powers they were never given?
Because here is the problem.
No government has the right to treat its own people like a battlefield.
No council has the right to hide behind urgency if the real question is lawful authority.
No agency should be able to deploy military-style or crowd-control technology against civilians and then act annoyed when the public asks who approved it.
And the timing matters.
The same system that told people vaccination was “voluntary” allowed employers, agencies, councils, and officials to make ordinary people feel like they had no choice.
Then later they say: “We never forced anyone.”
Really?
Tell that to the workers who lost jobs.
Tell that to the families who were split.
Tell that to the people locked out of public life.
Tell that to the people who stood at Wellington because they knew something was wrong.
Aunt Betty is asking the simple question:
Where is the lawful authority?
Not the spin.
Not the press release.
Not the “trust us” version.
The actual records.
Who approved the devices?
Who approved the tactics?
Who approved the emergency process?
Who decided normal democratic safeguards did not matter?
And why do these answers only seem to appear years later, after Official Information Act pressure?
This is not about being anti-anything.
It is about public accountability.
If they can use “emergency” to bypass process once, they can do it again.
Wellington protesters deserve answers.
New Zealand deserves answers.
Aunt Betty is still asking.
Who gave permission?
